An easy 5-minute recipe for how to make healthy homemade taco seasoning! This recipe uses simple spices you can find at any store and tastes better than the store bought packages. Plus, it’s sugar free so it’s Paleo + Whole30 friendly!
The best taco meat seasoning
Trust me, the best taco meat seasoning is not found in a packet at the store.
If you want to stay healthy and keep unnecessary additives and fillers out of your food, start making your own spices at home.
Store-bought seasoning mixes can have hidden soy, sugar, flour, wheat, grain, milk, starch additives and other preservatives.
Go ahead and skip pre-packaged stuff and make this easy and healthy homemade taco seasoning in under 5 minutes with spices you probably already have in your cupboard.
It’s a Whole30 taco seasoning
We are huge fans of the Whole30 program and we have tons of Whole30 recipes and Whole30 resources on our site. Since we know you don’t need sugar in everything, it was easy to make this taco seasoning recipe Whole30 and Paleo compliant.
Just add all of the seasonings to a bowl or jar and mix and you have an easy Whole30 taco seasoning!
Make it a low sodium taco seasoning
This homemade taco seasoning mix doesn’t have much added salt in it so it’s naturally low-sodium. It’s also easy to decrease or omit the salt in the recipe if you need a lower sodium version or a no-sodium taco seasoning. Don’t worry, it will still taste great with just the regular spices!
How much seasoning per pound of meat?
This recipe makes 1.5 tbsp of seasoning mix, which is enough to season about one pound of ground beef, chicken, turkey, shrimp, fish or other meat.
If you find that the amount of seasoning isn’t to your liking, you can always double (or triple or quadruple) the mix. Just adjust the serving size in the recipe card below and the ingredients will automatically update for you.

Your ads cover the ingredients. Very frustrating!

i always add about 1 Tbsp masa harina flour to give it that extra taco flavor…or in a pinch 1 Tbsp corn bread mix

This recipe is so perfect! I’ve been on the hunt for a replacement for the store bought taco that includes all those unwanted & unnecessary ingredients! So,so happy and geeked about finding this!
We’ve hosted taco nights using this seasoning and it’s a hit with everyone else too!
So happy you found the recipe Star :).
Made this for the first time last night. Great flavor! If I made it in bulk, would I need to adjust anything?
So glad you enjoyed it! You can make in bulk and store in an airtight container in a cool/dark place, just like your other seasonings! Makes it super easy to have it on hand and ready to go! Thanks so much for trying our recipe! 🙂
Do you add water to this recipe at all, when cooking with ground Turkey and taco seasoning?
We typically don’t but it’s a matter of personal preference. If you want to, I’d suggest starting with 1/4 cup and adding more as desired to get the texture you want.
