Why we love this amazing spicy honey sauce
- In our house, we use it as an all-purpose sauce for dipping and drizzling on any type of chicken (nuggets, wings, thighs and breasts)
- The buttery, salty-sweet sauce has only 5 ingredients!
- Did I mention all-purpose? We’ve tried it on baked goods like almond-flour cornbread, put some in our tea, and even drizzled a little on a side of caramelized butternut squash.
Did you know? This is the perfect sauce to toss or dip some crispy chicken wings in.
How to make hot honey sauce (step-by-step)

Recipe testing and ingredient notes
- Hot sauce – We tested this recipe with Frank’s Hot Sauce. We recommend using this or another basic hot sauce that’s not too spicy. You can adjust the spice level with the other ingredients if desired.
- Red pepper flakes – These are optional and add a lot of spice. Adjust to suit your taste. We first did a full tablespoon and it was too spicy for us. We think 2 tsp is the perfect balance of spicy but not crazy hot.
- Butter – Generally, butter is salted. If you used unsalted butter, you may want to add a pinch of salt to the recipe.
- Storage – When we first tested this recipe, I was surprised to see that when we stored the hot honey sauce the fat from the butter and red pepper flakes floated to the top of the jar. It turned out to be no big deal, everything redistributes when reheated.
- Reheating – Speaking of, simply add the hot honey sauce to a saucepan over low heat to warm up. Stir to mix.

We hope you love this recipe as much as we do!
