The Real Simple Good Life Roots – Habits

This is the fifth post in a series of six where we are telling the story behind The Real Simple Good Life. We are outlining the core principles that guide our healthy lifestyle – what we call our roots. You can read the introduction to this series here.

Our roots are the core areas we want to explore and focus on to help you build the foundation to live better. The more you focus on these areas, the deeper your roots can grow, building the structure and support system to allow you to live better. Our roots are:

Why we chose habits as on of our roots

Habits are extremely powerful. The habits and routines we execute throughout our day (mostly without even thinking about them) shape our lives. Through the creation of new habits, we can blaze an entirely new trail for ourselves. Simply creating one new habit and sticking with it (like daily movement) can lead to significant changes in your life and overall health.

We’ve experienced this first hand and that’s why habits are one of The Real Simple Good Life Roots. The power of our positive habits have helped us live healthier lives and start a successful business from scratch. Over the past year, we have built and refined routines to set ourselves up for success. Some of our favorite positive habits are:

  • Morning routine (meditation, gratitude, focused work, movement)
  • Evening routine (wind down process, reading)
  • Daily and weekly planning
  • Regular exercise
  • Date nights

Creating new habits and ditching bad habits can change your life tremendously, but it is hard work. It’s worth it, and yet still hard. We think we’ll be able to provide simple, actionable strategies around habits that will help you live better!

How habits can help you live better

We like to leverage positive daily habits to ground us, maximize productivity, create momentum and achieve our big goals. The power of habits lies in their “compound effect” – the exponential effect of small habits or tasks performed over time. We highly recommend The Compound Effect book by Darren Hardy to further explain this concept.

In the moment, doing one small thing or taking one little action may seem inconsequential. But over time, by repeating that same action and making improvements, you can achieve massive results to live better.

Content we will develop to help this root grow

Habits are powerful, for the good and also sometimes for the bad. We will share content around the idea of developing healthy, supportive habits and also eradicating bad habits. Some examples of the content we will share are:

  • Morning and evening routines
  • Increasing productivity
  • Improving discipline
  • Continual growth and learning
