How to make homemade chicken nuggets (step-by-step)
Ingredient notes
- Ground chicken – Ground turkey can be substituted for ground chicken if desired.
- Breadcrumbs – Use whatever breadcrumbs you prefer. If your breadcrumbs are already seasoned, you can omit the seasonings or cut them in half.
- Eggs – To make these egg-free, simply use about 1 cup of milk or nut milk instead of the eggs.
Recipe tips
- Rub some oil on your hands before forming the ground chicken into nugget shape. This will help prevent the chicken from sticking to your hands.
- When coating the nuggets with the breadcrumb mixture, it helps to use one hand for the egg part and the other hand for the flour part. This helps to keep the breadcrumb mixture as “dry” as possible and prevent clumping.
- Spraying the nuggets with a little oil before you cook them will help to get that browned, crispy outer coating.
- Don’t overcook the nuggets! They will end up dry and the breadcrumbs can burn. Watch them carefully at the end of the cooking time.

Crispy Baked Homemade Chicken Nuggets With Ground Chicken
Ingredients
- 1.5 lbs ground chicken
- 2 cups gluten-free breadcrumbs, (or regular if you don't need gluten-free)
- 2 tsp garlic powder
- 2 tsp paprika
- 2 tsp parsley
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp pepper
- 2 eggs
- Olive oil spray
Instructions
- Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a shallow dish or plate, mix together the breadcrumbs, spices, salt and pepper.
- Whisk eggs in a separate bowl.
- Preheat your oven to 400° Fahrenheit.
- Form the ground chicken into round, flat nuggets. You should make approximately 25-30 nuggets. Place the nuggets on the baking sheet.
- Now, dip one of the chicken nuggets in the egg mixture and cover completely. It should be well coated.
- Next, dredge the egg covered chicken in the breadcrumb mixture and make sure it is completely coated. Place the coated chicken nugget back on the baking sheet.
- Repeat until all of the chicken nuggets are coated.
- Spray the chicken pieces with some olive oil or avocado oil spray if desired to help them get golden brown (optional).
- Cook for 12-15 minutes, or until the chicken pieces are completely cooked through. Remove and serve.
