How to make the best ground chicken tacos (step-by-step)
Ingredient notes
- Ground Chicken – You can sub any ground meat. We love how chicken and turkey are mild and take on the flavor of the seasonings. If you want more richness to the meat, try ground beef, elk or pork.
- Tortillas – We used corn tortillas for these photos, but you can use whatever tortillas fit your dietary preferences (lettuce shells, cabbage, Siete, etc.)
- Toppings – We offer some ideas, but go for whatever sounds good. If you have 5 extra minutes, try our Chipotle Aioli!

Our Favorite Ground Chicken Tacos (So Easy!)
Ingredients
For the tacos:
- 1 onion, diced
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 lb ground chicken
For the taco seasoning:
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp cumin
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/4 tsp pepper
- 1/4 tsp sea salt
- 1/4 tsp oregano
For serving (customize as desired):
- taco shells of choice, (crunchy, corn tortillas, etc.)
- chopped lettuce or cabbage
- chopped onion and cilantro
- shredded cheese
Instructions
- Prep the onion as noted and prepare the taco seasoning by mixing all of the taco seasoning ingredients in a small bowl.
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add in the oil. Once the pan is hot, add in the onion and cook, stirring occasionally for 3-4 minutes.
- Add in the ground chicken and break it into small pieces. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the chicken is browned and cooked through, about 7-8 minutes.
- While the chicken cooks, gather/prepare your serving/topping items.
- Add in the taco seasoning and mix to coat the ground chicken. Remove from heat.
- Serve the warm ground chicken in tortillas/taco shells with lettuce, onion, cilantro and cheese, or your other desired toppings.
